UCLA football Coach Terry Donahue has even more reason to smile these days.

Donahue, who has the winningest record in school history and has won four straight bowl games on New Year’s Day, will have 11 signees--more than any other coach--from one of the best recruiting classes in the country in the Shrine All-Star football game Aug. 2 at the Rose Bowl.

Nine of his players in the statewide format are from the South--linebacker Randy Austin of Canyon High School of Canyon Country, defensive back Eric Turner of Ventura, defensive back Anthony Burnett of Lynwood, linebacker Brian Lockwood of Vista, linebacker Rocen Keeton of Gardena Serra, linebacker Nate Morris and running back Brian Brown of Gardena, lineman Lance Zeno of Fountain Valley and lineman Stacey Elliott of Long Beach Poly. The other two, tight end Corwin Anthony of South Bakersfield and lineman Kipp Kjeldgaard of Salinas, will play for the North.

USC will have the second-highest number of signees in the game at eight--defensive back Mark Carrier and linebacker Brian Tuliau of Long Beach Poly, center Tom Dabasinskas of San Pasqual Escondido, linebacker Glen Hartsuyker of Escondido Orange Glen, lineman Mark Tucker of L.A. Banning, wide receiver-defensive back Gary Wellman of Westlake, linebacker Pete McLachlan of Carson and tight end Scott Frier of Antioch.
