Evelyn Ashford of the United States set a United Kingdom record of 11.09 seconds in the women’s 100 meters during an international track and field meet at Birmingham, England.

Ashford, the Olympic champion, broke the record of 11.13 held by Britain’s Kathy Cook. Alice Brown of the United States was second in 11.14.

Edwin Moses extended his streak in the 400-meter hurdles to 112 straight. He won in 48.21, comfortably ahead of Amadou Dia Ba of Senegal, who was clocked in 49.29.

Britain’s Steve Cram, tuning up for the Commonwealth Games which open Thursday, easily won the 800 meters in 1:45.05.
