Aftershocks Rattle Sierra

Aftershocks ranging up to 4.7 on the Richter scale rumbled through the Eastern Sierra today as residents were told to expect more temblors after a severe earthquake damaged every home in a tiny mountain town.

The earthquake at 7:42 a.m. Monday left 50 people homeless, swayed buildings as far away as Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, caused rock slides and briefly stranded hundreds of campers. Authorities reported two minor injuries. (Stories on Page 3)

Experts warned that additional earthquakes capable of causing significant damage are possible during the next few days and said hundreds of aftershocks continue. One measuring 4.7 occurred at 6:34 a.m. today,
