Thunderstorms will threaten mountain and desert areas again today, but the stormy weather that brought scattered showers and lightning throughout the county this week has given way to more typical July weather.

According to the National Weather Service, the unstable air mass that welcomed thunderstorms from the south began to stabilize Wednesday afternoon.

“We are getting into a much drier air flow from the southwest. There are no thundershowers expected on the coastal plain,” forecaster Dan Atkin said.

Humidity was still a high 93% under cloudy skies through Wednesday morning at Lindbergh Field, but the clouds cleared by afternoon.

Wednesday’s temperatures at the airport matched the norm for July 23, with a high of 76 and and a low of 65.

The air is expected to dry out gradually over the next few days and temperatures may rise as a high-pressure system builds over the county, Atkin said.

Late night and early morning clouds and fair days are expected through Friday along the coastal strip and inland valleys.

All but one of the farm workers injured by lightning during Tuesday’s storms were released from area hospitals in good condition.

Florencio Pineda, 29, was reported in fair condition at UC San Diego Medical Center suffering leg pains, a nursing supervisor said.
