ZORBA AND VINNIE

John Travolta will be dancing on the big screen again--with Anthony Quinn in a musical remake of 1964’s “Zorba the Greek.”
It’s scheduled to start shooting in February, with Cannon Films producing, Robert Wise directing. “I’m scouting locations in Crete and Israel,” Wise told us. “We’re working now on the first draft.”
Travolta will play Niko (Alan Bates in the original), an uptight American who travels to Crete after inheriting a mine and benefits from Zorba’s zest for life. Waxing schmaltzy, Quinn commented in an interview that Travolta is “just like the son Zorba lost--and he even says I remind him of his father.”
