Cheryl Miller, drafted earlier this week by the Rockford Lightning of the Continental Basketball Assn., scored 21 points as the United States defeated Australia, 76-50, at the women’s World Basketball Championships in Moscow.
The United States, with the win, clinched a berth in the medal round. The semifinals are Friday, and the final is Sunday.
Miller, who led USC to two NCAA championships and helped the United States win the gold medal in the 1984 Olympics, was picked in the last round of the CBA’s five-round draft Monday.
