Extending Car-Pool Lanes All the Way to Corona

Share

The State Highway Commission should continue the already established car-pool lanes on the Costa Mesa and Riverside freeways out to Interstate 15 in Corona. I read or was told lately that over half the people who work in the Orange County and Los Angeles areas commute from the San Bernardino and Riverside area, yet the existing car-pool lane only goes as far as the Costa Mesa-Riverside freeway interchange.

If the State Highway Commission really wants people to car pool, then why not give us an incentive. I car pool now, but I estimate that I spend 95% of my driving time in stop-and-go traffic on the Riverside Freeway and 59% on the Costa Mesa Freeway in the car-pool lane, which I personally feel is a step in the right direction.

The cost of creating or continuing the car-pool lane would be small, if they just repaint the lanes, much like they did the Riverside Freeway farther west near Interstate 605.

I know that more people would car pool if they had an incentive and knew that most of their driving could be done in an express lane instead of only about 5% of their time.
