Local News in Brief : Pedestrian Killed on Northridge Street
The Los Angeles county coroner’s office Saturday identified a man who was killed Friday by a pickup truck as he was crossing a Northridge Street, police said.
The victim, Jose Mendoza, 39, of Northridge, was taken by paramedics to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from massive internal injuries at 5:35 p.m., Los Angeles police and coroner’s officials said.
The driver of the truck, Thomas Ghijlia, 32, of Reseda, told police he was driving north on Lindley Avenue just north of Roscoe Boulevard at 4:50 p.m. when the victim suddenly stepped into the street.
Mendoza apparently was struck by a camper shell on the truck, Officer Lewis Robinson said.
Ghijlia was not cited, Robinson said.
