Chess Play to Resume in Leningrad Wednesday

The second half of the $920,000 world chess championship between titleholder Gary Kasparov and challenger Anatoly Karpov will begin Wednesday in Leningrad, the Tass news agency said Monday.

Both champion and challenger are Soviet citizens.

Kasparov leads Karpov by 6 1/2 points to 5 1/2 points after the first 12 games in London. Kasparov can afford to lose one more game than his opponent in the final dozen games and still end up with 12 points, enough for him to retain the crown. He keeps the title in the event of a tie.
