University of Maryland Chancellor John Slaughter overruled the school’s original decision in 1983 not to admit basketball player Terry Long, who has twice flunked out and has been indicted on drug charges in connection with the cocaine-induced death of teammate Len Bias.
Slaughter said basketball Coach Lefty Driesell asked for his help on behalf of Long after the admissions office rejected Long’s application.
