Police Ask Help in Finding Gunman
Police asked the public for help Friday in locating a man suspected of firing several shots at officers during a car chase that left a man dead.
Identified only by his nickname “Naeem,” the gunman is suspected of firing several shots at two officers Tuesday morning while he was being chased by a police car that had tried to stop his car for a speeding violation, Detective John Bunch said.
Naeem and two passengers in his car, who also fired shots at the officers, fled the vehicle after it struck a light post at Crenshaw and Adams boulevards.
One of the passengers was killed by an officer when he was seen reaching for a gun while hiding under a parked car, Bunch said. Neither officer was injured.
The second passenger, who fled the scene with Naeem, is still missing and has not been identified.
Naeem is described as a 5-foot-8 black man, weighing 220 pounds with a medium build and is said to frequent Hollywood, West Los Angeles and the Wilshire area.
