College Roundup : Chapman Ranked Third in Soccer Coaches Poll
Chapman’s men’s soccer team is ranked third among Division II teams in the coaches poll announced Tuesday. Chapma (3-1-1) received 146 points and two first-place votes from the 12 voting coaches. New York Tech (170 points) and Davis and Elikns (159) are ranked first and second.
The Panthers jumped up from their ninth-place ranking of a week ago after playing defending Division I champion UCLA to a 1-1 tie Sunday in Westwood. The Bruins fell from first to fifth in the Division I poll. Chapman’s next game is Friday when it plays host to seventh-ranked (Division III) UC San Diego at 7 p.m.
In women’s soccer:
Chapman 4, Occidental 0--Freshman Kelly Weirich scored two goals to lead the Panthers to their first victory of the season.
Weirich gave Chapman (1-1-1) a 1-0 lead with a score in the 23rd minute. After goals by Debbie Stuart and Maggie Reardon, Weirich scored Chapman’s final goal with 11 minutes remaining.
In women’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, University of San Diego 0--Kris Roberts had 6 kills and 6 solo blocks to lead UCI to a 15-10, 15-10, 15-2 victory over USD in a nonconference match at UCI Tuesday.
Dana Parker added 7 kills for the Anteaters (4-7), who play host to Hofstra University Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Crawford Hall.
