PREP FOOTBALL : Villa Park Beats Brea Behind Solid Defense, 14-13
Defensive tackle Chip Smith and defensive end Colin Hartwig of Villa Park High School stopped Brea quarterback Richard Palacios on a two-point conversion try with 2:38 left in the game, preserving a 14-13 Spartan win Friday night at El Modena High School.
Palacios faked a handoff to his right and turned to his left, attempting a bootleg, when he ran into Smith and Hartwig.
Brea had only one first down and 81 total yards late in the third period when Palacios shocked Villa Park (2-1) with their first completion of the night, a 68-yard touchdown pass to halfback Steve Teran. David Stark’s conversion cut the Spartan’s lead to 14-7.
Palacios then drove Brea 79 yards in 10 plays, hitting Teran for the score that pulled Brea within one.
