Faust 3-1 as Akron Rallies to Victory
Mike Clark capped a 255-yard rushing performance by racing 37 yards for a touchdown with 3:10 to play Saturday night, rallying Gerry Faust’s Akron Zips to a 20-17 victory over Central Florida.
Clark, who carried 31 times and became Akron’s career rushing leader with 3,270 yards, also ran 19 yards for a second-quarter touchdown that trimmed Central Florida’s halftime lead to 14-13.
Ed O’Brien kicked a 25-yard field goal in the third period to boost Central Florida’s lead to 17-13. The Zips then drove 80 yards in nine plays in the closing minutes with Clark concluding the drive.
Akron, which rushed for 379 yards, is 3-1 under Faust, the former coach at Notre Dame. Central Florida is 3-1.
