South Africa’s Brian Mitchell stopped Panama’s Alfredo Layne in the 10th round to win the World Boxing Assn. junior lightweight title at Sun City, South Africa.
Layne, defending his title for the first time, lost because of the three-knockdown rule.
Mitchell, South Africa’s national champion, floored Layne three times in the 10th round of the scheduled 15-round bout.
