Aftershock Jolts San Diego

An earthquake described by seismologists as an aftershock to a July 13 offshore temblor jarred residents awake throughout San Diego County early today, but there were no reports of injury or damage.

The quake registered 4.2 on the Richter scale and struck at 2:52 a.m., according to Dennis Meredith, a spokesman for Caltech in Pasadena. The quake was centered in the Pacific Ocean about 27 miles southwest of Oceanside, Meredith said.
