Tronson Closes In on CSUN Scoring Mark as Soccer Team Beats San Diego State, 4-2
Joey Kirk scored two goals to lead the Cal State Northridge soccer team to a 4-2 victory over San Diego State State in a nonconference game in San Diego.
John Tronson, who assisted Kirk on his second goal, scored in the 38th minute. Tronson has 40 career goals, five short of Jose Perez career record of 45 set from 1981-84.
“John is a great player and he gets a lot of press,” CSUN Coach Marwan Ass’ad said. “I told Joey, ‘Nobody knows about you, which is great.’ It wouldn’t be the same team without Joey.”
CSUN’s Thor Lee scored an unassisted goal in the 68th minute. Northridge (6-2-1 overall) took only 10 shots on goal. San Diego State is 7-2.
