Wilson: Thumb’s Down; Plunkett: Up

Marc Wilson’s sore right thumb kept him out of the Raiders’ practice Thursday, making it likely that Jim Plunkett will start Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks at the Coliseum.

Last Sunday at Kansas City, Plunkett completed 8 of 10 passes, one for the game-winning touchdown, after Wilson was hit on the thumb. Wilson remains the No. 1 quarterback but will be held out unless his thumb starts healing faster.

“For a quarterback, a thumb is important,” Coach Tom Flores said.

Marcus Allen, out the last two weeks with a sprained right ankle, practiced, as did fullback Frank Hawkins, who played only on special teams last week because of a sore right knee. The Raiders are hoping both can play.

“I feel all right,” Allen said. “Not great. It’s not healing as fast as I’d like. The first couple of weeks, I knew I wasn’t going to play. This one I think I have a chance.”
