San Diego Volleyball : Pankopf, Larsen Lead Aztec Victory

Top-ranked San Diego State routed No. 20 Georgia, 15-2, 15-13, 15-2, in the Longhorn Invitational at Austin Friday.

The Aztecs (26-1) were led by middle blocker Renee Pankopf with nine kills and outside hitter Sally Larsen with eight kills and two aces. The SDSU offense hit .424, the third highest percentage in school history.

SDSU plays host to Texas, ranked No. 7, for the championship tonight.

UC San Diego, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division III, was upset by Biola, 15-13, 9-15, 15-11, 15-7, at La Jolla. Barbara Rosendal led Biola (14-8) with 16 kills and no hitting errors. Janet Hughes paced UCSD (23-4) with 17 kills.

Playing with only six players in uniform, United States International University defeated Cal State Fullerton, 15-10, 15-13, 15-7. Outside hitter Nancy Dome led the Gulls (10-11) to the nonconference victory with 22 kills and 3 blocks. Injuries have depleted the Gulls’ roster.

Nevada Reno (3-0, 10-9) swept the University of San Diego, 15-7, 15-4, 15-9, in a West Coast Athletic Conference match at USD. Gina Trapletti led the Toreras (0-2, 0-11) with eight kills.
