The Roman Catholic archbishop of Seattle has asked the Catholic Youth Organization to review its decision to banish a fourth-grade boys’ soccer team because it includes a 7-year old girl.

The mother of Marisa Monroe said that despite the intervention of Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen, she still plans to pursue a sexual discrimination complaint filed with the state Human Rights Commission against the CYO.

Three weeks ago, CYO officials threatened to forfeit games in which Marisa played for St. Joseph’s School. When she continued to play, the all-male CYO commission canceled by team’s schedule.
