The 4.7-magnitude earthquake that shook San Diego on Tuesday evening was located just off the shore of Chula Vista beneath San Diego Bay, Caltech scientists reported Wednesday.

Preliminary information after the quake occurred showed the epicenter to be offshore of Imperial Beach two miles north of the border.

A 4.7 quake on the Richter scale, which measures the release of energy, is capable of minor damage depending on where it takes place, scientists said.
