A building was destroyed and others were threatened in a fast-moving, wind-whipped fire burning out of control west of Gonzalez near Los Padres National Forest. No injuries were reported. “We lost an outbuilding, but some ranch homes were saved,” said Jean Kind, California Department of Forestry spokeswoman, estimating the fire at more than 4,000 acres and moving. She said the fire, spurred by stiff northerly winds of 30 m.p.h., began as an intentional but “illegal control burn.”
