In another City Central game:

St. Augustine 12, San Diego 0--Tony Evenson caught two touchdown passes, had two interceptions and recovered a fumble to lead St. Augustine at San Diego. Evenson, who had 8 receptions for 180 yards, caught scoring passes of 35 and 25 yards. Leon Olias completed 10 of 20 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns for St. Augustine (1-3, 2-7). San Diego dropped to 0-4, 2-7.

PALOMAR

Torrey Pines 9, Poway 6--John Lynch ran one yard in the fourth quarter for the game’s only touchdown to give Torrey Pines (3-3, 4-5) the win at Poway (0-5, 4-5). John Ashworth kicked two first-half field goals of 20 and 24 yards to provide all of the scoring for Poway, which was held to 90 yards total offense.

Fallbrook 19, Orange Glen 7--Fallbrook (3-2, 6-2-1) dominated the first three quarters and ended a late fourth-quarter Orange Glen comeback when defensive back Bill Dunckel intercepted a pass by Duffy Daugherty on the Fallbrook 30. Fallbrook quarterback Scott Barrick was 18 of 32 for 206 yards and two touchdowns, including a 45-yarder to Robert Sherman. Orange Glen is 1-4 and 5-4.

AVOCADO

San Marcos 34, San Pasqual 21--Rick Ebert completed 6 of 19 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns and Jim Jennings scored three rushing touchdowns to lead visiting San Marcos (5-1, 5-3-1) past San Pasqual (2-3, 4-5). Ebert threw second-quarter touchdown passes of 85 yards to Scott Ashby and 53 yards to Keith Helm to give San Marcos a 20-7 halftime lead. Jennings, who gained 149 yards on 25 carries, scored on runs of 3 and 10 yards to increase the Knights’ lead to 34-7 early in the fourth quarter.

CITY EASTERN

Mira Mesa 14, Point Loma 10--Linebacker Auto Marrion stopped Point Loma’s John Stanley inches from the goal line as time ran out to give visiting Mira Mesa its seventh straight win and the league title. Point Loma (1-2-1, 5-3-1) had taken a 10-0 halftime lead on a 5-yard touchdown run by Stanley and a 26-yard field goal by Peter Dolan. Mira Mesa (4-0, 7-2) got back into the game on a 16-yard touchdown run by Essex Burton in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Ed Allison threw Ray Rowe a 46-yard pass to set up a 1-yard run by Burton for the deciding touchdown with 7:38 left. Burton, the county’s third leading rusher, was limited to 68 yards on 23 carries. Stanley had 186 yards on 31 carries.

Morse 28, Serra 7--George Jackson ran for 131 yards on nine carries and Anthony Prather scored twice on 6-yard runs to lead host Morse. Jackson also scored on a 57-yard run in the second quarter to put Morse ahead to stay, 7-0. Oshay Caesar’s 3-yard touchdown run made the score 21-0 at the half. Morse (2-1-1, 5-3-1) will need to win its game at Mira Mesa next week if it is to have a chance at a playoff spot. Serra is 1-3, 2-7.

Madison 28, Patrick Henry 7--Halfback Jimmie Robinson ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to give Madison (3-1, 6-3) the win over Patrick Henry (0-4, 0-9). Madison scored all the points it needed in the first quarter when Robinson threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Olun Graves, followed by quarterback Marvin Prather’s pass to John Lee for the two-point conversion.

CITY WESTERN

Kearny 28, Mission Bay 14--Quarterback Scott Welish completed 17 of 24 passes for 200 yards, including a 40-yard scoring pass to Hoochie Osborne, to lead Kearny (2-2, 4-5) at Mission Bay. Welish also had 5 carries for 99 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Mission Bay is 1-3 and 2-7.

University City 16, La Jolla 14--Paul MacRenato ran for 83 yards on 25 carries and scored 1 touchdown to lead University City. Host La Jolla (3-1, 7-2) could have clinched the league title with a win, but spotted University City (2-2, 5-3) 16 first-half points and couldn’t come back. With 2:30 left in the game, Jeff Raulston caught a 42-yard pass for a touchdown from John tribolet to bring La Jolla within two points. However, Tribolet was stopped on the attempt for the two point conversion.

USDHS 21, Clairemont 19--Two failed attempts at two-point conversions in the fourth quarter made the difference as Clairemont (1-3, 1-8) fell short against USDHS (3-1, 8-1). USDHS’s Martin Correia ran for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns on 16 carries, including a 73-yard touchdown run. Clairemont’s Lamont Jackson threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Cercy Moore and later scored on a 1-yard run. Brian Gibson brought Clairemont within two points late in the game with a 95-yard kickoff return.

GROSSMONT 3A Briefly--Monte Vista 21, Santana 10.

GROSSMONT 2A Grossmont 14, Valhalla 0--Zack Kinsfather scored on a 14-yard run in the first quarter to give Grossmont (2-0, 5-3-1) all the points it needed against visiting Valhalla (0-2, 4-5). Eric Batson added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run.

METRO MESA

Montgomery 10, Chula Vista 6--Montgomery’s Kevin Crawford returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown with six minutes left in the third quarter to break a scoreless tie against No. 4 ranked Chula Vista at Chula Vista. With 9:02 left in the game, Brian Murphy completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Miranda off a flea flicker to bring Chula Vista (2-1, 8-1) close, 7-6, but the extra point went wide. Abelando Gonzalez added a a 29-yard field goal with 3:11 remaining to seal the victory for Montgomery (3-1, 6-2-1). Montgomery, which forced five Chula Vista turnovers, has the inside track for the league’s second automatic playoff berth. Sione Fehoko had 71 yards in 19 carries for Chula Vista, which meets Sweetwater next week.

Mar Vista 36, Hilltop 7--Todd Habel completed 9 passes for 132 yards, including two touchdowns, to lead host Mar Vista (3-5-1). Habel opened the scoring with a 22-yard pass to wide receiver Scott Brooks. In the second quarter, Habel threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Rafael Santiago. On the next series, Hilltop quarterback Chad Boyer, who completed 19 passes for 205 yards, threw a 45-yard scoring strike to Ron White. Mar Vista’s Gonzalo Quintero intercepted a pass by Boyer late in the fourth quarter and ran 16 yards for the touchdown. Hilltop is 2-7.
