Lazers Open Season Tonight at Forum

Share

The Los Angeles Lazers of the Major Indoor Soccer League will open their 1986-87 season tonight at 7:30 at the Forum against the New York Express.

The Lazers have only 12 players returning from last season’s squad, which posted a 13-35 record, the worst in the league. Eight new players have been signed by Coach Peter Wall in an attempt to turn the team around.

Indoor soccer has failed twice before in New York--in the early days of the MISL and during the heyday of the North American Soccer League--but Express president-goalkeeper Shep Messing, who spent the last two years working on getting a franchise to New York, is counting on its success this time around.

The Express is composed of a mixture of MISL veterans, among them former Lazer Amr Aly.
