Garden Grove : Shots Exchanged as Hit-Run Driver Chased

Share

Two cars collided with minor damage Friday night--not a particularly notable traffic accident, at first.

But according to police, the driver of the Ford Mustang--the driver apparently at fault--sped away, and the two men in the Volkswagen he had hit sped after him. “They were trying to get a license number to file a hit-and-run report,” one officer said.

After a mile chase to the Brookhurst Street on-ramp to the Garden Grove Freeway, a man leaned out of the window on the Mustang’s passenger side and fired five shots at the pursuing Volkswagen.

Two struck and shattered the Volkswagen’s windshield, and one of the bullets tore into the ski jacket and shirt of one of the men inside but just missed wounding him, police said.

The driver of the Volkswagen was less fortunate. Police said flying glass cut his face and arms, but the man refused medical treatment at the scene.

The Mustang escaped, said officers, who withheld the names of the pursuers “for their safety.”
