A city street maintenance worker directing an asphalt truck as it backed up an incline at a work site lost his footing and was run over and killed, Los Angeles police said. The victim, whose name was withheld until his family can be notified, was walking backward, signaling the driver as he reversed the truck up a slight grade on 1st Street below the Harbor Freeway overpass when he stumbled, Lt. Marvin Kilpatrick said. The truck driver said he did not realize the man had fallen and continued on, running the man over.
