Akeem Olajuwon, the 7-foot center who helped the Houston Rockets win the National Basketball Assn. Western Conference title last season, signed an eight-year contract extension.
The new contract will keep Olajuwon, who is in the third year of his original six-year contract, in Houston through the 1997-98 season. Rockets officials refused to disclose the terms of the extension, but Olajuwon reportedly earns more than $1 million a year.
