FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Master’s Loses Second Straight, 94-81

Jeff Goodrich scored a game-high 33 points Thursday night as Mt. Vernon College handed The Master’s its second straight loss, 94-81.

The Master’s outrebounded Mt. Vernon, of Ohio, 31-22, but was outscored at the free throw line, 28-14.

The Master’s was outscored, 35-15, after leading, 66-59, with 9:36 left in the game.

The Master’s was led by Pete Coeler, who scored 24. Teammates Rocky Shipes had 19 points and seven rebounds, Phil Hahn scored 16 points and Roger Terry added 10 points and six rebounds.

North Hollywood 2, Verdugo Hills 1--Senior Steve Chuck scored the winning goal in the 35th minute of the first half. Teammate Francisco Matheu, a second-team All-East Valley League selection as a junior, opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. North Hollywood is 2-3 in league. Verdugo Hills is 1-4.

Birmingham 2, Granada Hills 1--Senior Eddie Burns scored on a penalty kick 15 minutes into the game to cement the victory for Birmingham (6-1-2, 3-1-1 in the Mid-Valley League). Todd Cully scored the opening goal for Granada Hills (2-3-1, 1-2-1 in league) before Birmingham’s Jeff Greenbaum evened the game on a breakaway goal.

Cleveland 5, Taft 1--Oscar Ramirez scored twice to lead Cleveland (1-2-2 in the West Valley League). Robert Abrams, Josh Smith and Frank Diana each scored for Cleveland, and Per Inge Friberg, a Swedish exchange student, added two assists.

Canoga Park 2, Chatsworth 2--Jim Goldstein and Chuck Gordon each scored for Chatsworth (6-0-3, 3-0-2 in the West Valley League), which outshot Canoga Park, 19-8. Canoga Park (2-2-1 in league) had goals scored by Hector Najera and Robb Bird.
