COLORIZATION POLL SET TONIGHT ON KTLA
Are you for or against colorizing of classic films?
The colorized version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” will have its first Los Angeles telecast tonight at 7 on KTLA Channel 5, and immediately afterwards, viewers will have the chance to express their yea or nay votes on colorization.
KTLA will provide several 900 telephone numbers to poll viewers, then will announce results during its 10 p.m. newscast.
The station will also present “Color Wars,” a compilation of interviews and statements by, among others, director John Huston, “It’s a Wonderful Life” star Jimmy Stewart and Ted Turner, the chief proponent of the computerized process that adds full color to black-and-white films. That eight-minute program, hosted by Hal Fishman, also follows the movie presentation.
Meanwhile, at 9 tonight, KTTV will be showing a color version of another black-and-white film: “Miracle on 34th Street,” the 1947 movie starring Edmund Gwenn, Maureen O’Hara, John Payne and Natalie Wood.
