Streaking Stanford Is Going After 2nd Straight NCAA Water Polo Title
Stanford will take a 42-match winning streak into today’s first round of the NCAA water polo tournament at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
The top-seeded Cardinal (33-0) will meet Air Force (6-16) at 3 p.m.
In other matches, USC (15-11) will play Pepperdine (21-9) at 4:30, California (26-6) will face Brown (21-7) at 6, and UCLA (21-7) will take on Navy (27-6) at 7:30.
Stanford, a team known for its fast break, is the defending champion and has won five NCAA titles in the last 11 years under Coach Dante Dettamante.
The tournament will continue Saturday, and the championship game will be played at 7:30 Sunday night.
