In the opening round of the Redlands Tournament Thursday, The Master’s College lost to Cal Chico State, 100-87.
After trailing at halftime, 44-32, the Mustangs cut their deficit to seven points with about six minutes left. But Chico forward Joe Ross made a three-point shot and Master’s faded.
“That three-pointer really hurt us,” said Master’s Coach Randy Stem. “We just shot poorly, especially in the first half.”
The Mustangs shot only 40% in the opening half.
Rocky Shipes led Master’s with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Pete Coeler finished with 24 points and Phil Hahn had 10.
