A San Diego police vice squad operation...
A San Diego police vice squad operation on El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue on Friday and Saturday nights resulted in the arrest of about 50 men, including a 17-year-old juvenile, by three female undercover officers posing as prostitutes.
Police spokesman Bill Robinson said that the operation was in response to complaints by merchants and shoppers that the number of prostitutes along the two streets had recently increased.
Robinson said the increase probably is caused by the arrival of cold weather in Washington and Oregon, sending prostitutes who worked in those areas to warmer weather in Southern California.
On Friday night, 37 would-be customers were arrested. During the first two hours of the operation Saturday night, another 10 arrests were made, he said.
