The 1987 McDonald’s All-American high school basketball game will be played in Philadelphia April 12 before a national television audience, McDonald’s announced.

The game will be played at the Spectrum and carried live on ABC, the fast-food chain said.

The East-West game features the top 25 high school players nationwide based on their athletic ability and academic standing, according to the McDonald’s.

Past players in the 10-year-old contest include Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls, Earvin Johnson of the Lakers, Isiah Thomas of the Detriot Pistons and Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks.

Players are picked by a panel of basketball experts including Coach Morgan Wootten of DeMatha High School, Hyattsville, Md., and former UCLA Coach John Wooden.

The first McDonald’s All-American game also was played in Philadelphia.

The game has raised more than $500,000 for charities, according to McDonald’s. The company said proceeds from the 1987 contest will go to the Philadelphia Chapter of the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities, a national organization to benefit children.
