Countywide : Fire Season Ended on 58,000 Wild Land Acres
The county Fire Department closed the fire season this week, reopening 58,000 acres of wild lands to the public.
Four major unincorporated areas of the county were closed June 1, when warm, dry weather made them vulnerable to brush fires, Capt. Ron Blaul said Wednesday. Climatic conditions now permit reopening of those areas, he said.
“We don’t want to tell everyone that all the bets are off in those areas,” he said. “Some of the county’s worst brush fires have occurred before or after the fire season.”
The areas reopened at noon Tuesday include:
The region east of Yorba Linda, south of Los Angeles County, west of San Bernardino County and north of the Riverside Freeway.
An area from the Riverside Freeway south to the San Diego County line, west of the Cleveland National Forest and east of the Anaheim Hills, the city of Orange, El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, Mission Viejo and San Juan Capistrano. Silverado, Modjeska and Trabuco canyons are included in this area.
The unincorporated coastal area of Irvine Ranch bordered on the north by the San Diego Freeway, on the northwest by Newport Beach, on the southwest by Pacific Coast Highway and on the southeast by Laguna Beach and Laguna Canyon Road.
An unincorporated area of the southern part of the county that extends from Laguna Hills on the north to Laguna Niguel on the south and east to La Paz Road and Moulton Parkway.
