Longshot Sir Alibi Wins at Los Alamitos
Sir Alibi, a 19-1 longshot, edged 1985 World Champion Cash Rate by a nose in the $100,000 Horsemen’s Quarter Horse Racing Assn. Championship Saturday night when a 56-night season concluded at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Ridden by veteran jockey Jerry Nicodemus, Sir Alibi made a strong late run to overtake Cash Rate in a time of 21.39 seconds, one of the track’s fastest ever for the quarter mile (440 yards).
The winner returned $41.40, $6.40 and $2.10. Flow Of Cash finished third and Automatic Pilot ran fourth.
