Two women volleyball players from Romania who disappeared last week in Latina, Italy, surfaced there and requested political asylum in Italy, police said.
The athletes, Elen Iaconu, 30, and Marcela Gerghian, 22, failed to show up to board a bus to Bucharest with their teammates last week.
