College Basketball Roundup : Wyoming, Dembo Roll Past Lamar

Fennis Dembo scored the first 12 points of the game and finished with 25 points and 7 rebounds as Wyoming downed Lamar, 77-68, Sunday night to win the Cowboy Shootout at Casper, Wyo.

Wyoming (7-3) rolled to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes and pushed the margin to 34-15 with 5:04 left in the half. Lamar (4-5) closed to 38-27 at halftime, but never got closer than nine points.

Oregon 69, San Jose State 64--Anthony Taylor scored 14 of his 20 points in the final eight minutes, and the Ducks got past the Spartans in the semifinals of the Far West tournament at Portland, Ore.

The Ducks (6-4) built a 15-point lead with 17:24 left and held off a rally by San Jose (4-4). Ricky Berry had 21 points for San Jose.

Arizona State 106, Manhattan 66--Tyrone Mitchell scored 16 points to lead the Sun Devils to third place in the Holiday Bowl tournament at San Diego with a victory over the Jaspers.

The Sun Devils (4-4) opened a 49-29 lead by halftime and were not threatened in the second half.

Villanova 63, Houston 60--Doug West scored 16 points and the Wildcats beat the Cougars in the first round of the Sugar Bowl tournament at New Orleans.

The Wildcats (7-3) took the lead for good at 56-55 with 2:56 left on a jumper by Kenny Wilson.

Washington 72, Idaho 53--Chris Welp scored 17 points and Phil Zevenberger added 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Huskies turned back the Vandals in a consolation game of the Far West tournament.

Pittsburgh 79, Kansas 76--Jerome Lane scored 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Curtis Aiken added 21 points to lead the 14th-ranked Panthers past the No. 11 Jayhawks in the Rainbow tournament in Honolulu.

On Saturday night:

UNLV 103, Old Dominion 83--Armon Gilliam scored 35 points, leading the top-ranked Rebels past the Monarchs in the Holiday tournament at Las Vegas.
