Ricardo Alonso and Ben Collins each scored two goals to help the Chicago Sting defeat the Lazers, 8-5, in a Major Indoor Soccer League game Sunday night.

The win was the second consecutive victory for new Sting Coach Erich Guyer, who replaced Willy Roy earlier in the week.

Power-play goals in the first quarter by Teddy Krafft and Alonso, both assisted by former Lazer player Batata, gave Chicago a 2-0 lead by the end of the quarter.

A five-goal spree in the second quarter, including two goals by each team in the first 1:30 of play, gave the Sting a 4-3 halftime lead. Scoring were Alonso and Paul Krumpe for Chicago and Kai Steffen, Poli Garcia and Stuart Lee for the Lazers.

In the third quarter, the teams traded goals. Chicago’s Collin scored at 10:58 into the period, and the Lazers’ Greg Ion scored at 11:23.

Three more goals in the final quarter by Chicago’s Drago, Batata, and Collins against one for the Lazers’ Garcia secured the victory.

The result left both teams with 4-8 records.
