Former distance runner Henry Rono, who set four world records within 90 days in 1978, has left two alcoholic rehabilitation centers “and has gone back to drinking,” his agent said.
Tracy Sundlun, the agent and president of the Metropolitan Athletics Congress, said that Rono voluntarily left a center in northwestern New Jersey “because it was too restricted” a few days after being admitted in late November, and was thrown out of one in eastern Pennsylvania about 3 1/2 weeks ago “for disciplinary reasons.”
Rono is living with a former running friend in Boston, Sundlun said.
