Laguna Hills 55, El Toro 52--The Hawks (6-8) led all the way in upsetting the Chargers (10-5) at El Toro. Chris Sheff had 19 points and 8 assists to lead Laguna Hills, and teammate Mike Smedes had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Speaker had 16 for El Toro.
Tustin 47, Foothill 45--Brad Cantrell and Roger Middleton scored 10 points each as Tustin improved its record to 12-2.
The Tillers trailed Foothill through the first three quarters before finally taking the lead.
Canyon 64, Laguna Beach 62--The visiting Commanches defeated the Artists (4-9) despite a 20-point performance from Scott Herdman and 15 points by John McKeown.
University 75, Savanna 63--After a close first half, the Trojans broke the game open in the third period as 6-foot 7-inch center Lawsa Glasses scored 12 of his game-high 34 points. Guard Eric Olin finished with 20 for University (11-4). The Rebels (2-10) trailed by as much as 17 points during the pivotal third period. Bob Rivera led the Rebels with 15.
Villa Park 60, Orange 57--The Panthers (4-8) won the game at the free-throw line, hitting 8 of 11 in the final quarter. Overall, Villa Park got 17 points from Chris Storck and 15 from Tom Bray. Orange (5-9) had three players in double figures.
Newport Harbor 73, Costa Mesa 51--Senior John Alstrom scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds for the Sailors (6-7). Jim Geerlings and Bill Gleason scored 12 as all 11 players scored for Newport Harbor.
Mission Viejo 62, El Modena 52--Todd Matthews scored a game-high 19 points and Jeff Herdman had 16 for the Diablos (11-2). Jeff Steingraber and John DeGree each had 12 points for the Vanguards (1-10).
Estancia 74, Santa Ana Valley 63--Kyle Mooney had 33 points and Brian Tift added 21 to lead the Eagles at Santa Ana Valley.
Western 68, Bellflower 59--Chuck Powell scored 24 points and Bill Jefferson added 10 for the the Pioneers at Bellflower.
In the Academy League:
Whitney 69, Newport Christian 45--Christ Barnes scored 16 points to pace Whitney (4-1, 8-2). Newport Christian’s Scott Cooper led all scorers with 20.
In the Express League
Claremont 49, Wilmington 42--Mark Sanger set a school record with 23 rebounds and the Cougars (1-3, 2-5) had 77 rebounds. Tom Patraw scored 21 points and had 6 rebounds and Mark Pasley had 13 points and 16 rebounds.
