EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Safety Kenny Hill of the New York Giants reportedly has been fined $5,000 by the National Football League for an apparent late hit in the playoff game against San Francisco but will not be suspended for Super Bowl XXI.
Hill leveled 49er wide receiver Jerry Rice away from the play after an incomplete pass in the Giants’ 49-3 victory two weeks ago.
The New York Daily News reported that the $5,000 fine was levied Friday. The New York Times, quoting unnamed sources, also reported that Hill had been fined an undisclosed amount by the league, which announces suspensions but not fines.
Bill Walsh, coach of the 49ers, protested the hit by Hill on Rice after a fourth-quarter play.
