A suspect in the killing of one of four transients stabbed to death over the last two weeks in the Koreatown area has been arrested by police. Christopher John Riegel, 34, was being held without bail after his arrest last Thursday on suspicion of murder in the Jan. 14 death of a man who was stabbed while sleeping on the sidewalk on 9th Street near Vermont Avenue. Police have not released the victim’s name. Although Riegel was in custody at the time of the last in the series of murders last Friday, police investigators were trying to determine whether he was involved in any of the others, according to Los Angeles police spokesman Cmdr. William Booth. Investigators do not believe that these murders are related to the shooting deaths since September of 10 homeless men near downtown, he said.
