CBS said its TV network may lose $20 million.

Confirming earlier Wall Street forecasts, CBS said its network operations will lose money this year because of continued weak national advertising and high programming costs. The company as a whole is expected to remain profitable, analysts say, because of the continued financial strength of the record unit and the company’s television stations. CBS Chief Executive Laurence A. Tisch disclosed the possible loss at a meeting with executives of affiliate stations, as he discussed CBS’ plan to reduce the compensation it pays those stations for carrying its programs.
