Local News in Brief : Train Victim Identified as Northridge Resident
The county coroner’s office Thursday identified a man killed Wednesday when he was struck by a Southern Pacific freight in Burbank.
Dean Gilmore, spokesman for the coroner’s office, said the victim was Ayhan Arkan, 25. Police said Arkan’s last known address was in Northridge.
According to police, Arkan ignored warning signals from a freight train traveling east at 30 m.p.h. near Buena Vista and Vanowen streets as he walked on the tracks at 8:15 a.m. The train was unable to stop before striking Arkan, even though brakes were applied, Sgt. Don Goldberg said.
