From Staff and Wire Reports

New York owner Wellington Mara was pinned in a corner of the Giants’ crowded and steamy locker room Sunday evening, wiping the sweat from his brow and looking a little uncomfortable.

But nothing was going to wipe the smile off his face.

It had been more than 30 years since the Giants had won an NFL title and Mara was feeling a rush of emotions. Asked what first went through his mind when Commissioner Pete Rozelle handed him the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy, he said: “I thought, ‘Gosh, this thing’s heavy, I sure hope I don’t drop it.’ Then I was reminded of that painting where the kid says, ‘He ain’t heavy, father, he’s my brother.’ ”
