Long Beach Seeks First Win Over Santa Barbara in 3 Years
Cal State Long Beach, which hasn’t defeated UC Santa Barbara in basketball in three years, will have to beat the Gauchos tonight to stay in second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn.
The game is at 7:30 in Long Beach’s university gym.
Long Beach, 11-11 overall, is 6-4 in the PCAA, half a game ahead of Santa Barbara, UC Irvine and San Jose State.
Santa Barbara, 10-8 and 5-4, has three of the top 12 rebounders in the league in forwards Brian Vaughns, Brian Shaw and Khris Fortson. Vaughns is averaging 8.6 a game, Shaw 7.8 and Fortson 6.6, and the Gauchos as a team are averaging six more rebounds a game than their opponents.
All of the Gaucho starters are averaging in double figures in points.
The 49ers have lost three of their last four games.
