Escondido homicide detectives Friday were investigating the shooting death of a 27-year-old man.
Lt. Earl Callander said Kevin Michael McIntire) was parked in his pickup truck in the 1000 block of East 4th Avenue about 6 p.m. Thursday when he was shot at least once at close range in the chest by an unknown passenger.
McIntire stumbled out of the truck and was able to notify a resident in the area, who then called police, Callander said. Police found McIntire in an alley about one-half block away from the shooting.
Detectives said McIntire was taken to Palomar Memorial Hospital where he died about 7:50 p.m. Police have no suspect or suspects.
Thursday’s homicide was the first for the city this year. Last year, Escondido had five murders.
