Suspect Arrested in Slaying at Party
San Diego police arrested a suspect in the slaying of a 16-year-old youth who died Saturday after being shot in the head during a dispute about entry fees at a private party.
The victim was identified as Jose Antonio Penaloza, a junior at San Diego High School who lived on 20th Street.
The shooting occurred at 11:31 p.m. Friday during a party at a home on 49th Street, police said. Paramedics found the victim lying on a patio and took him to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7 a.m.
Shortly after the shooting, police arrested Carlos Sainz, 18, at a house on Oxford Street in Chula Vista. Sainz, who gave a Pasadena address as his place of residence, was booked into County Jail downtown on suspicion of murder.
