A driver going the wrong way Wednesday evening in Canyon Country slammed into another car in a head-on collision that killed a Saugus woman and injured her 22-month old grandchild, authorities said.

Joe David Finger, 30, of Canyon Country was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter, California Highway Patrol Officer Richard Perez said.

Finger was driving south in the northbound lanes of Sierra Highway, about six miles north of Soledad Canyon Road, at a speed of 75 m.p.h. when he struck a northbound car being driven by Margaret March, 48, Perez said.

March, who had been driving at a speed of about 50 m.p.h., was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6 p.m. accident, Perez said.

March’s granddaughter, Hannah March, was listed in critical condition at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The child had been strapped into a child-safety seat, Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mark Hefley said.

Finger was listed in serious condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman there said.
