College Baseball : Point Loma Beats Cal Baptist, 17-7
Point Loma Nazarene used four home runs to defeat Cal Baptist, 17-7, in a nonconference baseball game in which the teams combined for 19 errors at Riverside.
Steve Rons led Point Loma Nazarene (4-4) to its fourth straight victory with a grand slam in the eighth inning. Steve Wainwright, Curtis Burton and Randy Tippitt added solo home runs for the Crusaders.
Cal Baptist dropped to 3-5.
Chapman 13, UC San Diego 1--Freshman David Bird pitched a four-hitter and Mike Cruz drove in three runs to lead visiting Chapman to a 13-1 victory over UC San Diego (4-4).
Bird (1-0) struck out five and walked none for Chapman (5-3). Bob Natal was 2 for 4 and scored UCSD’s only run. The Tritons will play Cal State Los Angeles at 2:30 p.m. today at their La Jolla campus.
